Financial Aid for eco-friendly purchases
The Municipality of the Township of Hemmingford promotes environmentally responsible lifestyle habits. To support this, financial assistance is offered to residents who choose reusable products, helping reduce waste and encourage eco-friendly initiatives.
Objective
The objective of this policy is to reduce consumption at the source,
decrease the tonnage of residual waste materials, and meet the
requirements of the MRC des Jardins-de-Napierville’s residual materials management plan.

WASHABLE DIAPERS

According to Recyc-Québec, approximately 600 million disposable diapers are sent to landfill each year in Quebec, representing some 60,000 tonnes of waste, making diapers one of the main sources of domestic plastic waste.
The cost of disposable diapers is estimated at approximately 2,500 $ per child in Quebec (Option consommateurs, 2023), whereas an initial set of washable diapers generally costs between 500 $ and 800 $, representing a potential savings of 1,700 $ to 2,000 $ per child.

- Cloth diapers for babies
- Reusable inserts for cloth diapers for babies
- Reusable potty-training pants (toddler)
Eligibility conditions
- Have resided in the Township of Hemmingford for at least 6 months
- Have no outstanding balance owing to the Municipality
- Provide the original purchase invoice
- Submit the application form within 6 months of the purchase
- Only one reimbursement per child
Financial assistance
- 75 % of the purchase cost, up to a maximum of 500 $, for reusabgle products with a receipt.
Financial assistance will be granted until the annual budget allocated for this purpose is exhausted.
WASHABLE HYGIENE PRODUCTS

Regarding single-use paper products, the U.S. organization Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) estimates that each year in Canada, deforestation to produce toilet paper, paper towels and tissues results in the harvesting of more than 500,000 hectares of boreal forest.

- For feminine hygiene: reusable makeup remover pads, menstrual cups, menstrual underwear, panty liners, reusable sanitary pads, nursing pads
- For incontinence: reusable absorbent underwear, reusable incontinence underwear
- For household use: reusable paper towels, reusable toilet paper
Eligibility requirements
- Have resided in the Township of Hemmingford for at least 6 months
- Have no outstanding balance owing to the Municipality
- Provide the original purchase invoice
- Submit the application form within 6 months of the purchase
- Maximum of one application per household
Financial assistance
- 75 % of the purchase cost, up to a maximum of 500 $ per address
Financial assistance will be granted until the annual budget allocated for this purpose is exhausted.
MULCHING BLADES
Contexte et statistiques
Using mulching blades promotes grasscycling and leafcycling, thereby reducing the amount of yard waste sent to landfill. Recyc-Québec estimates that grass clippings and fallen leaves account for up to 20% of the seasonal tonnage of green waste in Quebec. These blades allow these materials to be reused on site and naturally enrich lawns, reducing the need for disposable bags.

- Have resided in the Township of Hemmingford for at least 6 months
- Have no outstanding balance owing to the Municipality
- Provide the original purchase invoice
- Submit the application form within 6 months of the purchase

- 50% of the purchase cost, up to a maximum of 50 $ per address

HOME COMPOSTERS

Using household composters helps divert a significant portion of organic materials from landfill by transforming them into compost that can be used for flower beds, vegetable gardens, and landscaping. Recyc-Québec notes that organic materials (food and yard waste) make up a significant share of residential waste. Home composting helps reduce emissions related to the transportation and processing of waste, while promoting responsible source management.
Eligible products
- Home composters (composting bins) intended for residential use
- Accessories essential to operation (e.g., a mixing aerator), if they appear on the same invoice as the composter
Eligibility requirements
- Have resided in the Township of Hemmingford for at least 6 months
- Have no outstanding balance owing to the Municipality
- Provide the original purchase invoice
- Complete the application form within 6 months of the purchase
- One (1) eligible composter per address, per 3-year period (unless a justified replacement is required)
Financial assistance
- 75 % of the purchase cost, up to a maximum of 75 $ per address
Financial assistance will be granted until the annual budget allocated for this purpose is exhausted.
